This week I had my very first reading ever. I don't have a good voice and it was scary as hell, but also kinda fun. The story I read was my "The Waitress," inspired by Tori Amos's song of the same title and chock full of Tori Easter Eggs. It ended up being a double creature feature because EC Dorgan read a story about unique monsters too! She also has a much better voice than me and I loved how her story was about a power couple. I LOVE power couples and think all fiction could use more. Check it out HERE!

I'm also taking part in the Free Summer Reads with Kobo Plus promo. No AI was allowed in the promotion, but I also learned that Kobo rejected a ton of AI slop books in general. Yet another reason Kobo Plus is superior to Kindle Unlimited. In honor of Pride Month, I featured Leaving the Shadows, a very unique shifter romance with two demisexual leads. But ALL of my books are free to read on Kobo Plus. Including my 2, soon to be 3, audiobooks! But as for the promo, this one is a lot smaller than the Yolo with Kobo ones I participate in, so you won't be as overwhelmed with too many choices. I'm going to try to be in more small promos this year and see how that goes.

Horror news: I got my author copies of both editions of Carrie Revisited. In that edition I got to contribute an essay and my art piece that was in the limited edition, Carrie's Legacy was included. And the awesome publishers at Watertower Hill Press sent me new copies of House of Haunts and Hospital of Haunts after mine were destroyed in the disaster. They even included Hotel of Haunts, which I wasn't a part of but am very excited to read! I'm also excited for the upcoming Highway of Haunts, which will have a story from me. LIFE NEWS I'm still having flashbacks of the tree crashing down on top of Kent and me. And I only now noticed that I have scars all over my legs from it. But for less grim details, as I'm trying to find my new identity as a weird widow, I'm gravitating back to my 90s goth style, and since I lost most of my clothes in the disaster, that at least gives me an excuse to shop.  I tried on a couple tops with a skirt I got on sale at Torrid. IN HORROR NEWS:  I'm currently signing signature sheets for a limited edition chapbook. I can't say what it is, but I can recommend that you sign up for Brian James Freeman's Patreon on the Lividian Storybox Chapbooks tier. ;) Francois Vaillancourt did the art and it is so badass!

I'm adding doodles to a couple pages. For those not on the Patreon, I should have some author copies available for sale. But if this chapbook releases before September, they will only be available at my next public appearance, because I'm going to be at Massacre on the Mountain! This is a horror author event at the Timberline Lode in Mt. Hood, Oregon! This is where The Shining was filmed, and will of course include a screening of The Shining.

The event will be held September 25th-27th, with the book signing being on the 26th! You can get tickets HERE, and unlike a lot of romance events, they're very affordable (which is why I'm able to attend), at only 20 bucks! Sadly the tickets to The Shining screening are sold out for now, but if you join the Facebook Group, you can keep an eye out for if someone cancels and tickets become available. If you do join the group, you'll see that I haven't been announced yet, so shhhh! ;) So, with a 400 mile road trip in my future, I need to get my car back to reliable and roadtrip-worthy. I got a start with replacing my catalytic converter and bought a new scanner tool since I lost the one we had in the disaster that wrecked our house and took the love of my life. I had already been getting parts I need for various repairs, but I only just now recovered my tools and toolbox.

It's pretty dusty and I gotta organize and inventory my various sockets and wrenches. This will be my first trip without Kent, who made me feel safe enough to travel and be out in public at all. Cover Reveal and Early Access to "The Boy From Limbo!"

 

Behold! The cover of my short story from the Hospital of Haunts anthology, The Boy From Limbo! Here's the plot summary: In a former hospital wing turned daycare, the ghost of a boy communicates to the kids through a deactivated call button. Ten-year-old Bree Thorne is unhappy to spend her summer vacation at the Lychhurst Hospital Daycare that her mother runs. Things get better when she befriends two more kids her age stuck in the same boat. And they get interesting when they hear the voice of a little boy talking to them from the inactive call button in the TV room. As Bree and her friends communicate with the boy, they research the horrible history of the hospital wing before it became a daycare. When boy's tragic history is uncovered, the daycare kids must choose whether to set the ghost free, or to leave him trapped in Limbo.  ***  This story was a blast to write because it was inspired by the summer vacations I had to spend at the hospital daycare that my mom and grandma ran. My event at the Night Market was pretty successful. I sold some books, more trippy bubble toys, and some candles. With my social anxiety and agoraphobia, it's really hard for me to do events, so I'm proud of myself that I managed to do two this year.  Another difficulty is that Coeur d'Alene and Spokane don't have many cons for horror or romance authors and artists. So most of the time I've had to travel, which has been impossible with my current finances. Still, I'm hoping to get my car road trip worthy again so I can attend things in Western Washington, Oregon, and maybe even Nevada.

Next week, I'll show off my Halloween decorating progress, and the progress on this year's Halloween costume.
