This week I had my very first reading ever. I don't have a good voice and it was scary as hell, but also kinda fun. The story I read was my "The Waitress," inspired by Tori Amos's song of the same title and chock full of Tori Easter Eggs. It ended up being a double creature feature because EC Dorgan read a story about unique monsters too! She also has a much better voice than me and I loved how her story was about a power couple. I LOVE power couples and think all fiction could use more. Check it out HERE!

I'm also taking part in the Free Summer Reads with Kobo Plus promo. No AI was allowed in the promotion, but I also learned that Kobo rejected a ton of AI slop books in general. Yet another reason Kobo Plus is superior to Kindle Unlimited. In honor of Pride Month, I featured Leaving the Shadows, a very unique shifter romance with two demisexual leads. But ALL of my books are free to read on Kobo Plus. Including my 2, soon to be 3, audiobooks! But as for the promo, this one is a lot smaller than the Yolo with Kobo ones I participate in, so you won't be as overwhelmed with too many choices. I'm going to try to be in more small promos this year and see how that goes.

Horror news: I got my author copies of both editions of Carrie Revisited. In that edition I got to contribute an essay and my art piece that was in the limited edition, Carrie's Legacy was included. And the awesome publishers at Watertower Hill Press sent me new copies of House of Haunts and Hospital of Haunts after mine were destroyed in the disaster. They even included Hotel of Haunts, which I wasn't a part of but am very excited to read! I'm also excited for the upcoming Highway of Haunts, which will have a story from me. LIFE NEWS I'm still having flashbacks of the tree crashing down on top of Kent and me. And I only now noticed that I have scars all over my legs from it. But for less grim details, as I'm trying to find my new identity as a weird widow, I'm gravitating back to my 90s goth style, and since I lost most of my clothes in the disaster, that at least gives me an excuse to shop.  I tried on a couple tops with a skirt I got on sale at Torrid. LIFE NEWS It's been 6 months since I lost my partner and my home. (If you're new here, you can read about that tragedy HERE) I'm still having more bad days than good, but with therapy, I am working on unfucking my sleep schedule. It is still hard to go to bed without Kent and I still have flashbacks of the tree coming down on top of us. Waking up is still hard because, due to my PTSD, I usually wake up screaming inside. Now it is worse because every day I wake up to a world where he is gone. But I'm playing with productivity apps. I can't do Finch because there's no PC version and I suck at doing things on phones. So the one I'm using is called Habitica. It's like an 8 bit PC game. It's kinda fun.  So on top of my sleep schedule, I'm trying to get better at self care. I'm trying to make that bit fun with going back to my old goth roots.  I also got my resume done and am starting to apply for remote jobs, so hopefully my son and I can afford a place before our coverage for temporary housing runs out.  Another cool thing is getting back into art. I'm doing a really cool painting for a secret project a publisher is working on.  Horror News I'm also going to be reading my short horror story, "The Waitress" on Story Hour on the 24th. Since I don't know what happened to Kent's Yeti Mic, I got one of those little fuzzy clip ons. I hope it will work okay. This will also be my first time doing a reading of my work and I do not have the best voice. So I'm pretty scared. First teaser of Bite At First Sight Audiobook!

This is gonna be a short update, but I wanted to share a quick snippet of the first chapter of the Bite At First Sight audiobook! My Kofi and Patreon supporters got the full first chapter. I will probably put that out next weekend, though.  We're most likely looking at a mid to late July release! And in the meantime, don't forget about my newly released expanded edition of my 80s horror romance, Her Haunted Heart!

LIFE NEWS We got a cushion of time to stay in the temporary housing we're in. Which is good because I wanted to find another job before having to move. And I really like the house we're in, though it won't hold a candle to our home. I also have so many things due in July. A painting, a nonfiction piece, and another revision of Graveyard Girls.  Long-term with my writing, I'm torn between trying to double down on trying to get my book sales up enough to be able to support myself, or possibly taking a year or two off. It's hard to think clearly because I'm still very much not okay after the disaster. I probably never will be.  But I have to keep creating. Not just for me, but because I feel like it would dishonor Kent's memory if I quit after all his years of supporting and encouraging me. But it's still so hard.
