My Awesome Time In The Limelight

See that? That's me at #27 on the Top 100 PAID Kindle bestseller's list! Wednesday MORNING!!!

Because on Tuesday I was a Kindle Daily Deal!!! Naturally I'd anticipated by Kindle sales (Which have been less than impressive) increasing a bit.

But I never expected to go up to 10064... to 133... to 57... and then to 36!

Also, I was #1 in all 3 paranormal romance categories!!!

With a reduced royalty rate due to the discount, it's not that much money, but for exposure, I was overwhelmed and overjoyed. I was above big names like James Patterson, Orson Scott Card, and Janet Evanovich!

Even though I knew that would be a very brief thing, it was still pretty awesome.

Then, when I woke up the next morning, I was at 27!!! With my book back at it's regular kindle price of $5.79. I think I'm at 64 now. So I'm still in the top 100.

For a newbie and relative unknown, this has been an amazing experience.

I want to thank everyone who spread the word and cheered me on that day and all who decided to give BITE ME, YOUR GRACE a shot!

Now That Summer's Over...

The kids are back in school and I hope to get my writing schedule back in shape. I'm on week 3 of wearing this stupid brace on my hand (that's why I haven't been as active online. Typing in this thing is a bitch). So I should be free of it by Monday. In the meantime I'd like to compile my fall/winter goals.

1.) Get back into a regular writing regime. My husband may actually help me get on board with this by taking my internet modem away and leaving me alone for 2 hours.

2.) Finish rough draft of Book 3 in my series by Christmas. Because Book 4 is really nagging me..so much that I may sneak in notes and rough scenes by then.

3.) Get books 1 & 2 polished up a little more before I commence the grand agent hunt. What's cool is that I just put them on my Kindle and WOW! Not only is it crazy to read my book as a book, it is also easier to spot errors. I found 3 typos in the 1st 3 chapters...and realized the hero from book 2 isn't smoking his pipe in book 1. For shame!

4.) Keep caught up with blog posts. I've been slacking again... But next week I have some awesome guest posts!

5.) Get caught up with the bills...so I can buy more books! I'm loving my Kindle...but hating my empty bank account. To solve this, I've begun my "Blood for Books" campaign. No, I'm not letting vampires bite me. ::wistful sigh:: I'm selling my plasma. My 1st appointment is today...and since I can't have alcohol within 24 hours of donating, this should help stave off "Hemmingway Syndrome."

Anyone else have plans for fall and winter?

Now that I have a Kindle...

When I first heard about e-readers I was scornful. Why would anyone want to give up the comfort of a nice durable paperback to read on a cold flat screen of some fragile, expensive dillywacker? Then when e-books began hurting print sales, I became hostile. Over the years my opinion slowly began to change.

Though I still love print books and they'll always be my favorite, a few things made me decide I'd like a Kindle.

1.) I can crit fellow writers' work on the Kindle.
2.) I keep winning e-books online but hate reading them on my laptop

3.) This is my bookcase. Books are stacked 3 deep and piled on top and on the floor in front...and it's still not enough! This is why my husband thought a Kindle would be a good idea...but now he thinks I should get rid of some books....meanie.

4.) Many publishers are e-book only. Not only do I want to read many of those books, but a few pubs I submitted my work to are e-pubs. It's be pretty silly if I ended up not being able to get my own book.

5.) Instant access. Many people would put this as a higher priority, but when I want the next book in a series, I have no problem getting into my car and driving to the library or bookstore. However, if they don't have it, or it's 2am, I can still get it on the Kindle.

All these factors made me go from "F&ck e-books" to "I WANT A KINDLE!" But I still couldn't afford one. This remains one of my biggest complaints on e-readers. Hell, if money weren't tight, I'd get a bigger house and put in more bookcases. :) Still, I watched Craigslist and e-bay for an affordable used model and entered contests to win one.

But.....this weekend I celebrated my birthday and was presented with a brand new Kindle! I was so happy I was literally hyperventilating and speaking in tongues. My critique partners, my husband, and another friend plotted together and pooled their money together to get me one...and a $25 Amazon gift card to get me started ::Excuse me a sec, I need to brush away another tear::

I am totally in love with it and have been having a blast downloading books and exploring its bells & whistles. However, now that I have a Kindle, I will still buy and read print books. I've heard so many people say "I'm never going back to print again!" Not me. In fact, I still have a stack of print books in my TBR list. And when I'm eating Cheetos, I'll feel safer with a trusty paperback.
