Praise for The Highwayman's Bite and a chance to win a Kindle Oasis!

There's a really cool giveaway on LitRing. They have the Kindle Oasis up for grabs. Actually, two of them.

The cool thing about this one is that you don't have to sign up for any newsletters with this one. You just get to pick a few authors to follow on Bookbub, which is cool because then you're only notified about discounts and new releases.
Link to the giveaway is HERE.

I'm in the grab bag category and you can follow me on there... oh, and if you already are, you can visit my page and bookmark the books you want to be notified about if I get approved for a deal for one.

Other Good News:

The Highwayman's Bite just got a glowing review over at The Romance Reviews.
This is especially awesome because between being sick, then Christmas, then Forbidden Song's release, then quitting smoking, I did NOT get on top of seeking reviews for that one as much as I should have. You can check out the review HERE.
And speaking of reviews, I want to thank those of you who have been reviewing my books. As an author who's lower on the totem-pole, they're one of the best ways for me to become more visible. They also keep me going, especially when I'm going through rough times like I am now.

So again, THANK YOU!

Hey everyone! I'm stuck in quitting smoking hell. Haven't completely kicked em yet, but I'm getting there.

Anyway, the virtual tour for Forbidden Song (Hearts of Metal Book 6) starts up February 26th! If you're interested in featuring the book, reviewing it (ARC will be provided) or interviewing me, you can sign up HERE.

I don't get many opportunities to get the word out on my books, so every feature is extremely appreciated. And if you're interested in reviewing any of my other books, you can email me at contact at Brooklyn Ann Author .com (no spaces).

I hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day. I'm getting a root canal, so most will be better than mine.

Forbidden Song is out on paperback? Plus chance to win an E-Copy!

Forbidden Song is also on paperback!
Right now I found it on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but it should show up on Powell's Books and other stores soon. If not, you can always have your local bookstore order it for you. And your local library!
Right now I'm making good pace with Hearts of Metal Book 6, Tempting Beat. Oops! Did I just announce the title early? Shhhhh!
This one's going to be a lot more light-hearted than Forbidden Song because Rod's the hero and he's a light-hearted guy. But OMG, he has a BIG secret. I can't wait to share it with you.
Personal news:
I'm putting myself through two kinds of hell. First, I started Chantix for yet another attempt to quit smoking. It's working okay, but it makes me a little queasy and slightly crazier than normal.
And guess what I get for Valentine's Day? A root canal and a crown or two!
That's right, I have to max out my Care Credit card to get 3 grand worth of dental work and the dismal part is that I need even more, thanks to poverty and genetics.

But enough about that.
GIVEAWAY: Right now there are two e-copies up for grabs on Amazon. No purchase or tweeting required, though if you want to buy another book or tweet about my giveaway, I won't stop you, lol.
(Sadly, the darn thing is US only, but I'm going to come up with something for my international readers)
That's all I have for this newsletter. Thanks so much for being one of my readers and I'll talk to you soon!
((Hugs))

Forbidden Song is available for PreOrder! Here's an Excerpt!

Forbidden Song releases January 11th and this time, you can make sure it gets to your e-reader right away.

You can get it on:

Cliff fought not to glance back at the closed partition door as Klement talked to the roadies about the show’s sound and lights. Christine was being quiet as a mouse, but it was only a matter of time before the others discovered her. A twinge of worry gnawed at his gut. He hoped Klement wouldn’t be too pissed about his stowaway.
His jaw clenched at the childish sentiment. Fuck Klement if he was. The guy was too controlling with how the band worked as it was. Klement wasn’t his father and had no say on his social life. If Klement could have his chick on the bus, Cliff should be able to have one too. Okay, so far Christine didn’t seem interested in being “his chick,” but he hoped that after a time he could persuade her to change her mind. She was like a gift dropped in his lap: beautiful, smart, sympathetic to the trials he had to face in his work. And most of all, she was a challenge, since she wasn’t in his lap.
Not yet.
Of course, maybe that’s where he’d fucked up with Kat. He’d just assumed she’d tumble into his bed like the last ones. Cliff had enjoyed the chase with his first few girlfriends, but as his fame grew, all prospect of pursuit faded. Women lined up to be with him on any terms.
Well, Christine had terms; that was clear. He just needed to find out what they were.
He had a feeling he would enjoy meeting them.
Roderick started to head towards the back of the bus. Shit. They’d only gone about twelve miles. He’d hoped to hold off the big reveal until at least thirty, or until they were out of cell service.
“Hey, Rod,” Cliff said, frantic to distract him. “What did you think of Deity’s set?”
“It was pretty cool,” the drummer said, eyebrows knitting at the abrupt question. “I liked the new song, though I haven’t made my mind up on the percussion.”
Kat elbowed him. “Oh, it was great and you know it. And so romantic of him to write a song based on one of Shana’s books.”
“I suppose.” Rod snickered. “I still can’t believe he ended up with a lady who writes bodice rippers.”
“They are not bodice rippers!” Kat shouted, poking Rod in the chest as the roadies laughed. Cliff took a step back. He’d learned really fast that you did not flip Kat shit for her choice of reading material. She may be tiny, but she was fierce.
Kat continued her tirade. “They are historically accurate stories that have a happily-ever-after and depict strong women who get what they want and men who encourage their empowerment. Dante’s smart enough to see that.”
Klement chuckled. “All right, you two. Break it up.”
Kat sighed. “Fine. But he really should read a romance novel before knocking them. In fact, I have one in the back that he’d—”
Cliff intervened. “Give it up, Kat. Rod doesn’t read books period.”
“I do too. I just don’t read fiction,” Rod retorted, rubbing his wrist. “Anyway, my hand is killing me. I wanna grab my compression sleeve.”
Cliff stepped in front of the door. “Why don’t we smoke a bowl first?”
“Yeah,” chimed in Steve, the light tech.
Rod paused. “Do you have any this time, or are you intending on begging from Klem’s stash again?”
“I have my own,” Cliff said, trying not to sound defensive, knowing Christine could hear. He didn’t want her to think he was a mooch. “And I don’t beg off of him. He’s just generous.”
“I have my own too,” said Greg, the sound engineer. “Got some sticky chronic from the weed store. God, I love Washington.”
Cliff gave Rod a pointed look and silently blessed the roadie.
They all settled on the bench seats and around the little kitchen table, but as Cliff loaded a bowl, taking as much time as possible, he forgot a vital fact: Kat didn’t smoke weed.
He froze with the lighter in his hand as she got up from the bench seat and headed to the partition door. “Kat, wait.”
She stopped and turned with a quizzical look. “What? I’m just grabbing my laptop.”
“I…um…” He scrambled for a distraction to keep her up front, but nothing came.
She shook her head and opened the door. Then gasped.
Cliff flinched.
“What are you doing back here?” Kat demanded.
“Cliff said I could tag along.” Christine’s voice was shaky and defensive. “You know, for my research paper.”
Klement bolted up from his seat looking furious. He met Kat in the doorway and glared in Christine’s direction. “God damn it, Chrissy!”
Chrissy? Cliff frowned. Did Klement know her already?
Klement rounded on Cliff, his eyes narrowed to slits. “Quinn is going to fucking kill you.” He closed his eyes and brushed his hand over his face as if the world were ending. “He’s going to kill all of us.”
Cliff blinked, confused. He’d only had two beers and no hit off the pipe yet. “What does Quinn have to do with Christine being on the road with us?”
Klement’s words came like a punch in the stomach. “She’s his baby sister.”

Brooklyn Ann's 2018 Goals

This isn't a metaphor, I'm just happy I finally have a life-sized skeleton to play with.

One of the most true things my ex said about me is that I have the organizational skills of a cement mixer. This is another reason why I saw a lot of 2017 as a failure. And though some of it was in that I never achieved a work-life balance, a regular schedule, a budget, or a marketing plan, I also missed what successes I had.

Like... OMG, I ACTUALLY MADE MY GOAL INCOME FROM MY BOOKS! It was just by average, not by month, like how I was seeing it. I literally missed the forest for the trees.

If I'd been keeping track all along, instead of counting it all up at the end of the year, I would have seen this.

With that in mind, I'm going to spend some time reflecting on past behaviors as I list each goal and sub-goal.

#1: Create a schedule:

Another thing that really got me on the productivity thing was that this was my first year working exclusively from home. This gave me a "Kid in a candy store" complex with time. It also killed my motivation in a way I didn't expect.
See, the last few years were spent in a flurry of productivity and some semblance of organization because my mind kept up the mantra: "Gotta get out of this call center. Gotta Get out of this call center!"

...But now that I have another awesome day job that makes me twice the money in half the time, the urge for escape isn't at the forefront of my mind. I need to find something else to fixate on. Another carrot in front of my nose. I don't know what that is, but I hope to come up with something in the next month or two.

I also need to spend more time with my mentors and colleagues because the encouragement and advice of fellow authors has improved my career. I don't know what made me quit doing that.

#2 Create a budget:

Speaking of having more money, although I did get myself a nice emergency fund established (After years of living paycheck to paycheck, this is a relief) I am really sucking a budgeting and I made a ton of impulse buys... like that full-sized skeleton.

I will work hader at budgeting, and curbing impulse spending, but I will admit that all the crazy horror stuff I bought is still a good thing. For the first time in over a decade, I was able to indulge in some self expression. Now I just gotta budget that sort of thing in my life instead of being all, "Hooray! I have money! I'll buy stuff!"

Budgeting will also help me better figure out what sort of marketing I can and will do as well as start planning for my future.

And it will help me with goal 3.

#3: Write a Will

I have assets. Now that I'm over the shock of that concept, I need to figure out what I want done with them when I die.

But... I don't want to die anytime soon so I better work on #4:

#4: Work on Health

I noticed through my 2017 recap that I was sick a lot. This sucked even worse with not having insurance. Thanks to knowledge from a friend, I found out that with the ACA, you can go to an insurance agent who will help you get on the right plan and it doesn't cost you anything to get that help. I'm on an amazing plan because apparently Idaho's insurance market is great. I know that's not the case for all states though.

Anyway, I'm also beginning to take vitamins and I'm going to cut back on Red Bull and subsitute for smoothies, make a little bit of an effort to eat more fruits and veggies, and SEE THE DOCTOR!

I also managed to find my old therapist. I have PTSD and she was great. She'll be able to help me with some mental issues that hindered me.

On the mental health front, I'm going to make sure to schedule days off and to schedule something for pleasure each day.

On the physical health front, I'm going to trick myself into exercising more by scheduling a time to choose to clean something or do crunches and stretches.

#5.) Produce at least one Audiobook.

More people are reading audiobooks and my fellow authors and many readers have been telling me to get my books in audio format. But the time and expense has scared me. I'm determined to learn what it takes and get Wrenching Fate in audio. If it's easier, maybe I'll even get the whole Brides of Prophecy series out in audio. :)

#6.)  Do at least one local book signing.

Between my PTSD and my last local book signing being so demoralizing, I didn't try to do one last year. But I do have local readers and have gotten lifelong fans from these, so I need to suck it up and do another one. It can be practice for if I ever make the big time, lol.

#7.)  Write 4 books this year.

My average has been 3 1/2, but if I can budget my time better, I can swing 4.

These 4 books will be:
Two Hearts of Metal books.
These are in my contract and didn't give me a big enough gap for other projects.

1 Brides of Prophecy Book
Beau's book is next. I haven't written a M/M romance yet, so that should be interesting.

Begin NEW secret idea book

I have an idea that's been stewing. I don't want to say much about it, but a lot of thinking led me to the decision that I want my books to be more women-oriented, rather than hero-bait. Not that I'm going to stop striving to write awesome heroes, far from it. They'll have to be even more awesome to deserve the badass women I plan to write.

Yes, this means no Scandals With Bite book for 2018. That series sells the least and I feel dangerously close to a creative slump with it. I do want to revisit that world sometime though, so it's not quite the end. After all, The Lord of Blackpool still needs his happy ending.

#8.)  Be good to my loved ones.

I am so freaking lucky to have my awesome son and a boyfriend that is too good to be real. My son is going to be leaving the nest in a couple years so I want to do the best I can to prepare him for adulthood and enjoy the time I have left with him.

As for my boyfriend, if you follow me online, you know I talk about him and his kindness and amazing exploits a lot. I'm still smitten. I seem to have done well with my 2017 goal of doing nice things for him because he's still with me and he still treats me sooooooo good.

So I'm still on a mission to keep him.

I also want to reach out to friends and family more.

#8: Get Little Beast on the road

My Datsun restoration project fell through last year, though I did manage to get her a new hood and new side emblems. And man, I do miss working on cars. It's satisfying in a way I can't describe.

#9: Put Engine in my son's truck.
We were supposed to do that last year, but whatever. I'm making my son help too. He needs to learn how to work on cars.

#10: Learn how to airbrush flames.

I got an airbrush kit and I want to put flames on my Honda Fit and my Datsun, Damn it. I still have to paint the Fit purple too. This is my planned look for it.
